Dear Corporate Overlords Re: Debt Ceiling

Dear Corporate Overlords,

I would like to draw your attention to some reaping what you sow events that may not be 100% obvious.

For quite sometime you have been "supporting" members of congress based entirely on your short term self interest, irrespective of those legislators "other qualities". You have been pushing for lower taxes and less government to such an extent that only the self interested, conned, or idiotic would go along. And now so many members of the House of Representatives are so stupid and/or ideologically blind that they are currently trying to do something that could ruin the world economy.

Your pushing for ever decreasing amounts of government is bearing the fruit we all should have seen coming. Through support of "conservatives" who purport to believe that that government can't do anything and are willing to say anything (and/or its opposite) you have funded a legislation that can no longer govern at all.

I call this to your attention because the connection between your corrupting actions and total economic collapse may not have been totally clear. You may lose unimaginable amounts of money for your shareholders (and everyone else) because your cronies in the house are so stupid and ignorant that they can no longer be trusted with the basic running of the U.S. government. The government, I hasten to point out, that is responsible for the reserve currency used by the whole world.

Anyway, I just wanted to point this out to you in case we survive this. Because if we do, I would very much appreciate you understanding the importance of governance when you buy and sell my legislature.

Yours in impudent rage,
Josiah

Becoming an Air Ninja™

I am somewhat obsessive about minimizing the heat I am exposed to, as I turn into a total jerk when I am overheated. Part of that obsessive behavior has come to be called Air Ninja-ing. I will no teach you my secrets on this the hottest of days.

How to be an Air Ninja in 4 or so steps. 4 steps with blurry photos of a white board.

This is my apartment, more or less.
Step 1

Find two opposing windows in your home. You want to find windows that you have to walk through all of what you want to cool off to get from one to the other. In this case I am trying to cool off my whole place.

Step 2
OK, this is really the whole trick. Close all other windows other then the two you just picked out. Trust me, I'll explain shortly.

Step 3
Now you want to go to a part of the path the air is going to be forced through. If there is a doorway in the path you can close it almost all the way and then test the air direction. If you are having a hard time telling which way the wind is going, that means it doesn't matter.

Step 4
Now you want to put a box fan into one of the opposing windows. Preferably in the window farthest away from where you want to hang out. Put it in the window so that it fits snug if possible, and make sure it is facing the same way as the direction test that you did earlier. Because the other windows are closed your apartment acts like a wind tunnel and you get the full benefit of the fan everywhere the air moves.

This is why you put the fan far away from yourself if you can.

In some wind conditions, like when the wind is pushing air through you house anyway, you can just open the windows. But in weak or inconsistent wind, as well as winds that are at an unhelpful direction, you will want to stick to the Air Ninja Plan.

I learned this lesson from an unlikely master, who will get credit if they want to be named.

Borders @ Downtown Crossing going out of buisness sale.

Borders is going out of business and liquidating all of their inventory. The prices and the inventories will be going down over time. But right now it's not really worth it except for the magazines @ 40% off. I read at Slate that the liquidation process should take 9 - 10 weeks. I'll be coming back periodically to check for the obscure titles that will stay on the shelf long enough to see the price to come down under what I'd see online.
